My thoughts, recollections, and reflections on the 2023 Writer’s Police Academy.
- It exceeded my expectations, once again. We were all glad to hear it may continue but in a different mode.
- I learned a lot of interesting things, and I learned several things that can be used in my mystery books.
- I made a dozen new women friends, all writers, all in my age group. I look forward to following them on Facebook, blogs, and other social media. Even us introverts enjoy making new friends.
- The hotel was superb – wonderful facility and the staff was amazing. So friendly and helpful. I’d stay there again any time.
- I drove up in wool and I continued that throughout the event and on the drive home. Merino is not the wool of yesteryear. Several of my new friends were interested and I loved talking about it and letting them feel my wool. [more information on my wool journey]
- My three top sessions were the K9 Medical Team, Crime Scene Investigation, and Handcuffing. That said, ALL the sessions were well done!

Would I do this again? I have to give that a qualified yes. The two day drives up and back were hard on me. Especially the drive home. I left early on Sunday and my goal was to get south of Indianapolis so Monday would be a shorter day.
i should have known what my day would be like when I ended up going the wrong way on a one-way road. Good thing it was early on a Sunday. I waved am “Im sorry” to the three cars I ran into and breathed a huge sigh of relief when I got back to two lanes. Note to self, sometimes the GPS has a reason for routing you the way it shows.
It wasn’t long before the rain started and it didn’t stop the rest of the day. It slowed a bit a couple times, but a lot of my drive was done at 35-45 mph. I hate driving in the rain on the best of days, this was no exception. By the time I got to Edinburgh, IN and the Best Western, I was exhausted and tense. My body tingled all over from the clenching of every muscle during the drive. But I was safe and Monday was a breeze. A shorter drive and no rain.
