As I stated in WPA Part 1, we got to sleep in with nothing happening until the afternoon. The first was something called Touch a Truck. There were representatives, with their vehicles, from multiple first responder agencies, a funeral home (ever look inside a hearse?), and a K9 Medic training unit.

I stopped and chatted with several folks but spent the most time with the K9 folks. The Operational K9 Medical Team of Wisconsin was founded in 2020 to educate K9 handlers across the State of Wisconsin on point of injury/pre hospitalization medical care for their K9 partners. They include Search and Rescue, Military K9 Teams, EMS Personnel, and Firefighters in their training sessions. They are a non-profit organization and love donations (hint-hint).

The two training dogs were Greta, a two-year old German Shepherd, and Stig, a five-year old Belgian Malinois. They are both the personal dogs of the team members.

Next up was registration where we picked up our swag bags and our schedules for the next two days. I was quite happy with my selections, I got every class I had asked for. You can see I quickly wrote down where the classes were held – we were in two different locations on the two days, and each had multiple spots for classes.

After chatting with some new friends while sitting in the lobby, I opted for a late lunch/early dinner in the hotel restaurant (it was delicious). When the evening rolled in, we had an welcome/orientation followed by a presentation from Mike De Sisti, a photojournalist: The Story in Photos of the Darrell Brooks Trial and Waukesha Parade Attack.

Coming up in Part 3 – day one of classes.
