A to Z of Small Delights, Simple Pleasures, & Significant Memories

Best Small Delights, Simple Pleasures, & Significant Memories…

  • Beach under a full moon: I have so many memories of my living in Florida during my twenties. Sitting in the car, or on a rock, watching the moonlight glitter across the water and listening to the waves coming ashore. I do miss that.
  • Blueberries: The best are wild blueberries, not cultivated. They have the most flavor. When I was a teen, we lived in rural New Hampshire on seven acres of land. The top part was wild pasture and there were blueberries, both wild and cultivated. We’d pick and freeze for winter pancakes. Yum!
  • Butterflies: So delicate, so pretty. When we cruised to Aruba in 2015, I visited a butterfly sanctuary. I didn’t want to leave. Below is one of the photos I too.
  • Birch trees: Growing up in New England, birch trees were abundant and they were my favorite. I still love them.
  • Beer – dark beer: I was never a beer drinker until my husband introduced me to Moose Drool while we were visiting Yellowstone Park shortly after we met. Since then, I’ve come to realize I love dark beers, porters and stouts. Not a fan of fizzy yellow beer.
  • Bird aviaries: My late husband took me to visit the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, NY. My favorite place was the bird aviary. I could have sat there all day, listening and watching the birds. The best part of the zoo for me!

  1. Birds, I love to hear the meadowlark, they’re almost extinct now. Beaches, love the sound of the waves, and there’s nothing more exciting than watching a thunderstorm on a beach!

  2. You’ve got some of my favorites on here today.

Blueberries – my favorite family memory growing up was driving to Michigan (I’m originally from Chicago) to pick blueberries (cultivated). Now I live in Poland and sometimes my husband and I go wild blueberry picking in the forests near where we vacation. I’m not a fan of the picking per se as it’s a bit tedious and gets boring fast, but I do love eating blueberries.

Bird aviaries or bird-watching in general – that’s my retirement plan basically 🙂 I love birds. They’re such fascinating, beautiful and complex creatures.

Beaches under full moons 💖 so many good memories, but mostly lakes not oceans as I’ve always lived closer to lakes.

    1. Ah, I love the memories this challenge in bringing out in others as well as for me. Thank you for sharing yours!

  3. Such a great reminder that instead of getting caught up in the politics of the day , ugly current events around the world, or personal financial insecurities- it’s wonderful to remember all the sweet times the giant wolf looking dog walks up and just crashes his head down into my lap just to say I’m sorry I barked at the little dog outside or I love you food lady and just want to cuddle while you rub my ears . It really is the simple pleasures that get us through every day . ❤️

    1. You’re so right, Vikki. This was a good exercise for me and brought out happy thoughts & feelings.

    1. I love blackberries & raspberries but the seeds can be painful with dentures. LOL! How did I miss books?

  4. What a beautiful list. My list of B favorites would include bees, birch trees and tree bark in general, and bergamot essential oil.

  5. Thanks for highlighting so many Bests that come from our natural environment. That buttrfly snap is magnificent. BTW You can have my share of the dark beer

  6. Love the beach anytime, just made a blueberry pie, love butterflies and birds. And Dark beer is great

  7. I’ll take the beach at any time of day, in any weather.
When we – one day, maybe – meet, we will drink dark beer together. Like you, I was not a beer drinker until, for me, Guinness Stout. Sadly, good stouts are hard to come by here.

  8. When we were children, we went often to a beach at Charmouth on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. Famous for big fossils and ammonites, we found a place where you could find tiny shells cast in fool’s gold. Last time I went in 2019,i had to move out of shot as they were filming Ammonite…

    1. Wow, shells cast in fool’s gold…sounds lovely. I remember my grandfather giving me small pieces of rock and non-precious gems for a collection. One piece was fool’s gold. I haven’t heard of that for years. Thanks for the memory.
