I thought I’d check in with my readers and see what length book you prefer. I find that since I started writing cozy novels, the length has gotten shorter. There’s good and bad to that. The good is it takes less time for me to write the books. The bad (maybe) is the books are read in a shorter time period.

Hmmmm – what is your preference? (Not that this will impact what/how I write. The stories dictate that as I write them.)

  1. I inherited my father’s ability to read rapidly, so I prefer long books. Otherwise, they’re just like a quick bite of candy, gone too soon!

    1. Same here – when I had to buy paperbacks, I only got the really thick ones or I was done in an hour or two. Now I have no issue with shorter but it seems I actually have less time to read than when I was working. LOL!

  2. I tend toward series so they are normally 60k-80k range. However, prequel need to be novella size – just long enough to wet your interest! I will read any length for a stand-alone.

  3. It really depends on how engrossed it makes me feel. Really good ones always make me wish they were longer. Like mysteries! The cozies I prefer in the normal range without half of the book describing what they wore and every little step they took. And I abhor cliff-hangers!
