Today’s snippet is from my latest book, Mocha & Melodies, a companion novella to the Red Line Coffee Shop Mysteries.

“It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks. I mean, it looks like an accident of some sort.” Jodi  pulled a tissue out of her pocket and handed it to her friend.

“Really?” Desiree blew her nose and tucked the tissue into the sleeve of her sweatshirt. “What do you think happened?”

Growing up as the younger sister of a police officer, Jodi knew better than to make wild guesses. “They won’t know anything until the coroner’s report.” She paused. “Or if they have to do an autopsy…”

“What does that mean? Why would they do an autopsy?” Desiree sniffed and pulled the tissue out to wipe her nose.

“Well, if the coroner decides there is foul play or maybe just can’t determine the cause of death, then the body would be sent to the medical examiner for the autopsy.”

“How do you know all this stuff ?”

“My brother is a police officer back home in Jumpers Hole. We only have a coroner.” She leaned in closer. “And he also owns the funeral parlor in town. AND…” she paused dramatically, “his last name is Alldone. Can you imagine a funeral parlor named Alldone’s Funeral Home?” She stifled a giggle, but Desiree couldn’t, a snort escaping her lips as she tried to hold back her laugh, eliciting more stares and whispering from the others.

They were silenced by the sight of the two officers striding down the hallway with Wesley Sherman, the head of the music school. The trio stopped in front of the two girls.

“You were the ones who found the body?” The taller of the two officers asked in a brusque tone.

The girls nodded.

He continued. “We need to interview you.”

  1. All done – lol. At university the Music Professor was Ivor Keyes and at my doctor’s surgery the woman in charge of Minor Surgery was Jenny Cutting…
