I’m not known for romance novels other than my one single, Home Again. But when I initially started to write, I thought for sure I’d be writing romance novels. I ended up writing Home Again and Not a Whisper within months of each other and fell in love with mystery writing.
Recently I came across my early notes for a trilogy of sweet romance books and talked to a cover designer about them. She came up with some brilliant covers using my old notes. The series would be title “Opposites Attract” and would be set in three different states. Here are the notes I sent to her.
1] A Mountain Chance [takes place in Montana]
City girl meets country boy
She can’t imagine living anywhere but the city
He can’t imagine living anywhere but the country
Neither trusts others, they always leave2] A City Celebration [takes place in Arizona or New Mexico]
Artistic hippie girl meets self-made man
She’s a loosey, goosey, hippie girl who does what she feels like
He’s a workaholic who’s uptight and can’t relax
They drive each other nuts but the chemistry keeps them together3] A Seaside Hope [takes place in Florida or California]
Surfer boy, injured, meets educated nurse professional
He’s commitment phobic, only working seasonal jobs, no fixed home
She’s putting herself through school, working as a home nurse
He can’t stand her planned out future, no sense of adventure, no taking chances
She can’t stand what she considers his laziness and lack of direction/ambition
I think they sound like fun to write and, hopefully, to read!
What are your thoughts on when I should write these? Should I take a break from mysteries? Do you enjoy reading sweet romance novels? What if there is a twist of mystery in them?
