My contribution to this week’s Sunday Photo Challenge in 200 words or less.

She stood in the middle of the room, destruction and chaos surrounding her. For some unknown reason, the vines crawling up the wall behind the unfinished fireplace comforted her.

Multiple shades of green stood out on the ashen walls. She admired their tenacity and persistence in the middle of a world full of destruction.

She shouldn’t delay, they would be here soon, but she found it hard to move. She was tired and their pursuit had been relentless.

She stepped forward and caressed the leaves, feeling their velvet surfaces. Closing her eyes, she closed thought about the past and better days. A tingle passed up her arm and a strange warmth filled her body.

The mercenaries charged into the room but it was empty. One wall was covered with vines, a brilliant contrast to the room full of grays. 

Normalcy in the middle of chaos.

Life in the middle of death.

  2. What a breath of Mother Nature’s fresh air in the vines… a complete saving of a life to become another life. Very interesting.
