“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words, but to live by them.” – John F. Kennedy

In the US, Memorial Day is celebrated the last Monday in May. Often confused with Veteran’s Day,  Memorial Day was designated to give tribute to those who died serving in the military. through the years we have lost many and we continue to do so. My thanks go out to all those lost and their families.

It is also the traditional “start of summer” day for many, celebrated with camping, picnics, and family outings. This year that will be very different. The Boy Scouts won’t be putting flags in graveyards. There won’t be parades. Social distancing is the order of the day as we wear face masks while not shaking hands or hugging while staying six feet from others.

Maybe this year we will take time to reflect on what Memorial Day stands for and give our sincere respect to those who died for us.

  1. We think alike. Yesterday I was searching for an appropriate graphic that I could use as my Facebook profile page scene when I came across a page of famous quotes about Memorial Day. I chose the same JFK words and decided to post it last night with the same observation of what this day SHOULD be about.
    Thoughtfully yours, CoolJudy
