It’s time for a Freewrite Friday post where I write whatever comes into my mind. It could be a writing update, a personal update, or who knows what else Here’s my thoughts today…

I like warm sunshine on a brisk day. I dislike hot sunshine on any day. Factor in high humidity, and you’ll find me in the air conditioning. I grew up in New England and crisp fall days are still my favorite time of year.

We love our property up on the Cumberland Plateau where the summer temps are rarely in the 90s. Maybe seven days worth across the whole summer. Living in Florida for many years in my 20s-40s, I never got used to the heat. It starts in March and can go to December. I even remember washing my car wearing a bikini one Christmas day.

When my parents moved us to Florida in 1965, our first apartment (and later house) had no air conditioning. I remember many sleepless nights, laying in bed not moving but still sweating. I also spent one summer as a 7-8 month along expectant mother with no air conditioning. Yup, not fun.

And remember how we had to dress as professional women? Suit, blouse, slip, and panty hose. Once you walked out of the house, you were drenched.

Nope, not for me. Not anymore.

Yes, I admit it. I’m a weather wimp. And at 75, that’s okay!

  1. Oh, I hate summers. And with menopause just round the corner, the hot flashes drive me mad. I envy men lounging around in bare minimum clothes while we can’t 🙁
In Mumbai, the winters aren’t considered winters, but they are pleasant. The rainy season is fine, too, as it cools down the city. But it gets humid when it doesn’t rain.

    1. I keep a small USB fan on my desk, end table, and night stand just for those hot flashes. I found if I drink some water (cold preferably) and turn on the fan, they are shorter. I always travel with one and recently found a rechargeable one that I love.

Humidity makes me feel yucky (there is no other word for it). I admit to pretty much staying in air conditioning all summer. Sigh…

      Stay cool, my friend!

  2. I loved the dry summers we had growing up in England, (yeah they do sometimes get some hot weather. Lol) and love the dry heat in Europe, but I struggle with the heat and humidity here in North Carolina.
Now if it’s cold I want to see snow on the ground and be tucked up inside with a good book.
But I do think I prefer the cool crisp air of late autumn 🍂 weather.

    1. I’m with you on the fall weather. Best of them all. I couldn’t deal with the humidity in most of the southern states. Fortunately it’s not too bad up here but I still hibernate in the A/C.

Stay cool (and enjoy the new hot tub).
