“Hurry up, come see!” My niece tugged me towards their campsite. I’d just gotten in from work after a week from hell. Exhausted, sweaty, and ready for some relaxation, the last thing I wanted to do was deal with an exuberant six year old.

“Can’t it wait till I’ve had time to shower and change clothes?” We rented campsites for the season every summer. My camper was ready and waiting, calling my name with a fridge stocked with beer and my favorite wine.

“No, now!” She stomped her feet and crossed her arms, looking all the more like a mini-me pitching a fit. I held back a giggle.

My sister heard the commotion and shouted over. “Andrea Lynn! Stop it right now. Let Aunt Laura do what she needs. Your surprise isn’t going anywhere.”

Looking at her chagrined face, I waved back. “It’s okay. I’ll go look.” I expected to be shown the latest bug acquisition or something of that sort. The last surprise she’d shown me was a snake skin. As long as it wasn’t a spider!

She brightened and grabbed my hand again. “Over here! You’re gonna be so happy!”

I nodded and let her drag me across the campground to the backside of the campers. This was where everyone parked their 4-wheelers. I could see my brother-in-law’s Polaris RZR with mine just beyond it. I had no idea why we were here.

Andy ran ahead and jumped up and down with excitement. “Hurry up! It’s here! It’s over here!”

As I passed my 4-wheeler, Andy pointed to a small, really small kiddie 4-wheeler. “It’s mine, Auntie Laura. All mine! Mommy and Daddy told me I can ride it around here anytime I want as long as I do what I’m told. Will you come ride with me? Please?”

I laughed, pulled my hair into a pony tail and climbed onto my RZR. “What are we waiting for?” The shower could wait!
